TL;DR For many years we have observed iPhone Batteries in a multitude of qualities. Right now, the trending term that everyone seems to be buying into is “0 cycle”. But what exactly does this mean? And why wouldn’t you want one? A mobile phone’s battery can vary in characteristics quite a lot. One if the biggest factors is the charge/discharge “curve” of the cell itself. There’s an abundance of cell chemistry available, and thousands of pages of information explaining each. Rather than writing a book however, we wanted to explain what’s important when it comes your common lithium iPhone battery. …

Warning, this article is technical. There’s a number of issues that plague microsoldering/motherboard repair technicians. The biggest by far is lack of understanding. In an ever growing industry, we are constantly learning. With that said, despite the abundance of information available, there is no real collaboration of information about some issues, and why they occur. We are going to take an in depth look at how the charging system in an Apple device works, and how different conditions result in different behaviour. There’s a lot to cover, and not every device works in exactly the same way. A charging issue …

There is one question that plagues repair shops around the world. One of those unanswerable mysteries of the industry. Who sells the best iPhone/iPad Batteries? As many are already aware, we have been working on an open-source battery tester, to put an end to the mystery. For weeks now, we have been working with the development boards, writing the software for the CommBatt project. Incredible progress has been made, and we can now very accurately determine the quality of a battery pack. With enough combined tests to call out even the most convincing fakes and reprogrammed IC’s, we …

This article is best viewed on a Desktop Computer If you own a repair shop, and you’ve ever found yourself with a need to charge an iPhone battery, you probably have one (or more) of these Kaisi Test Fixtures. Unfortunately there’s some fairly substantial issues with these boards, that most people are unaware of: Lack of Current/Voltage Regulation The board has nothing specifically designed to limit the current or voltage provided to the Cell. Lithium Batteries should be charged in 3 stages (as explained here). Precharge – Where cells below a certain voltage are given minimal current. Constant Current …
